Memorial plaque wording ideas

Most memorial plaques follow the same pattern: the name, the years, and one line that sounds like the person. Here are some starting points. Replace the brackets with your own details.

  • In loving memory of [name], [year] to [year]
  • Forever in our hearts
  • Always loved, never forgotten
  • [Name] loved this place. Sit a while.
  • Gone fishing. [Name], [year] to [year]
  • Run free, [pet name]. Our good boy, [year] to [year]

Not sure about the wording? Send us what you have. We will suggest a layout that fits the plaque size and is easy to read from a distance.

Name plates for offices and buildings

Desk name plates, office door signs and boardroom plates look best when they all match. Send us a list of names and titles, and we make the whole set in the same material, font and size. When someone new joins, send their name and we make a plate to match.

For award plaques and trophies, see our awards page. For engraved plastic labels on equipment, see lamacoid tags.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about our services.

What should I write on a memorial plaque?

Start with the full name and the years of birth and death. Then add one short line, such as "Forever in our hearts" or a phrase the person often said. On a small plaque, fewer words read better, so keep it to two or three lines.

Which plaque material lasts best outdoors?

Stainless steel, slate and granite are the best choices outdoors. They stand up to rain, frost and sun. Wood and acrylic plaques are best kept indoors.

Can you add a photo or a logo to a plaque?

Yes. We engrave logos and crests from your artwork files, and we can engrave photos on materials such as slate and granite. Send the clearest image you have.

Can you match plaques we already have?

Usually, yes. Send a photo of an existing plaque with its measurements. We match the layout and lettering as closely as the material allows.

Will I see the plaque before it is made?

Yes. We send a digital proof with the exact wording and layout. Check every name and date, because nothing is engraved until you approve it.

How much does a custom plaque cost?

The price depends on the size, the material and how much engraving there is. Send us your wording and the size you have in mind, and we will give you a quote.

How long does a plaque take?

Most plaques are ready in 3 to 5 business days. Custom artwork or a large set of plaques can take longer, and we confirm the date in your quote.

Do you ship plaques?

Yes. We ship across Canada and to the United States.
